Staff Spotlight - Patty Theurer
Patty Theurer is the Michigan Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons Quality Collaborative’s (MSTCVS QC) program manager and a co-manager of MISHC.
She has been a member of both teams since their inception and has enjoyed watching them grow.
Patty began her career in cardiac surgery when she helped launch the cardiac surgery program at Providence Hospital in Southfield, MI, in 1989. Working as a registered nurse first assistant allowed her to see patients throughout all phases of care.
While she has appreciated virtual meetings, Patty has enjoyed working to implement the return to in-person meetings where consortium members can learn and network face-to-face.
“I have met and had the opportunity to work with so many amazing people through the years here in Michigan, the country, and around the world,” Patty said. “I’m excited about bringing our state surgeons and interventional cardiologists together in a meaningful way to discuss ways to provide the best care for our patients with valve disease.”
When not working, Patty enjoys her three grandchildren, hiking, kayaking, and golf. She also works with the Midwest Medical Mission and has helped organize the surgical portion of more than 30 mission trips to the Dominican Republic. While the trips have been on hiatus during the pandemic, Patty is anticipating a post-COVID return in 2023. She is happy to share her experience participating in mission trips with those interested in learning more and welcomes you to email her at ptheurer@umich.edu.
