The Michigan cardiovascular community lost a wonderful surgeon, collaborator, patient advocate, and friend with the passing of Francis (Frank) Shannon, MD on July 29th, 2024. Dr. Shannon was the surgeon’s surgeon and leader of one of the finest cardiac surgery programs in the region at Beaumont Royal Oak (Corewell Health East).

Dr. Shannon embraced new technologies and was a trailblazer in the advancement of TAVR. He was a strong supporter of MISHC. He brought our consortium together and a thoughtful and dynamic voice to our meetings, the publication committee, and numerous conversations about how to improve quality and access to appropriate care.

To Dr. Shannon’s numerous colleagues, trainees, friends, patients, and to the Shannon family, we mourn his loss and celebrate his life with you.
